City staff issued a 71-page report in response to San Mateo County Sheriff Greg Munks stating that he wants to build a new jail on the 3.5-acre site at the county government center.

The report says a new jail is "incompatible" with the city's vision to develop the downtown area for more housing and businesses and encourage walking. The report expresses concern that a jail project would scare away two nearby housing development projects.

Munks says a new, $140 million jail is needed to ease overcrowding at current facilities. He argues that the location close to the courthouse is ideal because it would minimize transportation costs.

^Yea? the only bad area in San Mateo County is East Palo Alto and that's only like 40 thousand people in that town.... I dont know is EPA even in San Mateo County?

All I know is I use to have to go out that way for business and it was hella nice.

I've been to a bunch of parts of Redwood City because of my job. Mostly over by Kaiser tho' I'm sure it probably got a ghetto most towns do.

I'm just saying from what I seen from all them towns it doesnt look like they would need hella jail space didnt look like it was alot of crime.
